At Swiss Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), there have long been many sustainability groups that have only limited contact with each other and therefore rarely benefit from a mutually supportive ‘movement’. This is why the Sustainability Week Switzerland was initiated in 2017 to bring together everyone for the same project at least once a year. Nowadays, the week takes place in 15 Swiss cities and at 35 HEIs every year in March. During these local weeks, various events on the broad topic of ‘sustainability’ are organised by student volunteers. In Basel, students have already participated in this movement since 2019 and have set up a Sustainability Week for the third time in 2021. With events ranging from individual change to system change, we offer a rich variety of topics in varying formats of discussions, lectures and workshops for our community at the University of Basel as well as broader audiences.
